JoyceDeWitt first appeared on stage at the age of 13 years old. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. In the summer of her stock production she was enticed by director John Toth to join UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was granted the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt said she never met actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as a secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is best known for her character Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 period of sitcom Three's Company, a job she was offered after being cast in the second pilot episode of the show. Janet was also featured in an episode of The Ropers in which she starred in the year 1979. Following the show's conclusion, Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in the year 1984, after which she quit acting for a few years. In June 1991, she returned to acting performing in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] Later, she appeared in the TV comedy Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired an episode in 1997 that featured a character based upon her. The voice actor was a different actress. She made an appearance on an episode of Cybill and made an appearance on the final episode of Living Single. The 2000s work of her include TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
